Introduction to Navigation

If you’ve never picked up a map and compass before, then this session is for you!

Beginning with a look at the different types and scales of map in use, you will learn how to match up what you see on the ground with what you see on the map, and start to use techniques such as ‘ticking off’ features and ‘thumbing’ the map as we begin to explore the local area around Buttermere.

Duration: Half day

Instructor/client ratio: 1:6

Equipment needed: Hillwalking clothing, pack, walking shoes/boots
